The Things We Protect

Raise your hand if you’ve been hurt.

We’ve all been hurt.

By words.

Rejection.

Disappointment.

And our response is universal.

“I’m never letting that happen again.”

It’s understandable.

It’s protection.

And for a time…

it serves us.

But life doesn’t stop asking us to love.

Or trust.

Or begin again.

It keeps inviting us into awe…

curiosity…

wonder…

and wholehearted joy.

Yet few of us were ever taught how to move through hurt without quietly closing parts of ourselves along the way.

Perhaps that’s one of the greatest opportunities of the second half of life.

Not to become less vulnerable…

but to learn how to feel deeply and stay fully alive.

A Question to Walk With

What part of yourself became quieter in order to stay safe?
